Training & Certification

In accordance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies, all personnel at Rice University must complete the appropriate training before they are eligible to work on Animals (See training requirements below). Neither IACUC approvals nor authorizations to animal areas will be granted until certification is completed.

Training Requirements

Group Requirement
Rice University employees and students working with laboratory, agricultural or wildlife animals Complete the online Animal Use Training
Visitors who will be working under the direct supervision of a Rice University certified animal user (i.e. will never contact an animal without a Rice University certified animal user present) and have already completed mandated training at their own Institution. See Visitor Certification Instructions
Non-University Employees who will be working under the direct supervision of a Rice University certified animal user (i.e. will never contact an animal without a Rice University certified animal user present) and has NOT completed mandated training at their own Institution. See Non-University Employees
Students who are part of a classroom project using animals Read Part I: Ethics of Animal Use in Research of the IACUC Animal Use Training .
