SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM

Rice-Houston AGEP has an exciting summer undergraduate research program that is specifically designed to give hands-on research experience to undergraduate students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. Other benefits of participation include: providing a solid foundation for the remainder of undergraduate course work, making new friends, developing professional relationships, and gaining a sense of what graduate school will be like, particularly at Rice University and the University of Houston.

Specifically, the program offers students the opportunity to:

  • Conduct research under the guidance of graduate mentors and leading scientists and researchers,
  • Explore career and academic opportunities,
  • Join a community of students and faculty who value diversity,
  • Share in weekly social and professional networking sessions, and
  • Mentor high school students.

The AGEP Summer Research Program runs June 2, of 2008 through August 8, of 2008. Successful participation in the program carries a stipend of $4,000 for the summer to help with living expenses. Travel to and from Houston is also provided, if needed. In addition, there is a housing supplement provided by the program.

Required prerequisites:

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply.

Deadline and requirements for applying:

Application Deadline: March 3, 2008.
Students must submit a completed application form, a resume including their current academic classification (i.e., freshman, sophomore), academic major; grade point average; previous related work and research experience, if any; unofficial college transcript(s); and at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
