HIGHLIGHTS OF GRADUATE STUDIES AT RICE
  • 1800+ graduate students are enrolled in Rice University Graduate Programs.
  • Rice awards 500 graduate degrees per year.
  • Rice is highly selective in graduate student recruiting and attracts highly qualified and talented graduate students.
  • Rice provides Graduate Fellowships to nearly all entering students enrolled in thesis graduate programs.
  • Continuing students are eligible for a variety of fellowships and other awards including tuition waivers, research assistantships, industrial fellowships, teaching assistantships, and special fellowships.
  • Most graduate students enrolled in thesis programs receive financial assistance during the entire course of their studies.
  • Most students entering Rice graduate programs receive a tuition waiver as part of their Fellowship package. For all students completing six semesters in a Ph.D program, tuition costs are reduced to approximately 5.5 % of full tuition (about $1600). For most students supported on University or most other kinds of funds, reduced tuition is waived.
  • Rice's graduate student travel funds support the participation of graduate students in professional meetings and conferences. Every graduate student at Rice who is beyond his/her first year of graduate study and who presents a paper or poster at such a meeting receives travel funds.
  • The Graduate Office has established a loan fund to support graduate students in need of financial support.
  • In Fall 1997, Rice opened its new Office of International Students and Scholars. The office suite houses a professional staff that is dedicated to international graduate student services as well as a student lounge.
  • Rice has a new apartment complex dedicated to graduate students. The Graduate Apartments have accommodations for single and multiple apartment occupancy, and each unit has ethernet-linked to the university computer network and the internet. The new Graduate Apartments are located within a short walk to the campus.
