- 1800+ graduate students are enrolled in Rice University Graduate Programs.
- Rice awards 500 graduate degrees per year.
- Rice is highly selective in graduate student recruiting and attracts
highly qualified and talented graduate students.
- Rice provides Graduate Fellowships to nearly all entering students
enrolled in thesis graduate programs.
- Continuing students are eligible for a variety of fellowships and other
awards including tuition waivers, research assistantships, industrial
fellowships, teaching assistantships, and special fellowships.
- Most graduate students enrolled in thesis programs receive financial assistance
during the entire course of their studies.
- Most students entering Rice graduate programs receive a tuition waiver as
part of their Fellowship package. For all students completing six semesters
in a Ph.D program, tuition costs are reduced to approximately 5.5 % of full
tuition (about $1600). For most students supported on University or most other
kinds of funds, reduced tuition is waived.
- Rice's graduate student travel funds support the participation of graduate students
in professional meetings and conferences. Every graduate student at Rice who is
beyond his/her first year of graduate study and who presents a paper or poster at
such a meeting receives travel funds.
- The Graduate Office has established a loan fund to support graduate students in
need of financial support.
- In Fall 1997, Rice opened its new Office of International Students and Scholars.
The office suite houses a professional staff that is dedicated to international
graduate student services as well as a student lounge.
- Rice has a new apartment complex dedicated to graduate students. The
Graduate Apartments have accommodations
for single and multiple apartment occupancy, and each unit has ethernet-linked
to the university computer network and the internet. The new Graduate Apartments
are located within a short walk to the campus.
